Day one of AFL convention brings reflection, education and hope

A packed day one of convention included a rousing speech from AFL President Gil McGowan, and great presentations

After a blessing from Elder Roger Bearshirt, and a morning of greetings, the convention heard a motivating address from AFL President Gil McGowan where he called on delegates to learn from our past as we prepare for what lies ahead.

Lunch time included an informative educational on Domestic Violence in the Work Place.

The afternoon of convention turned to updates from the Executive Council on the AFL in Action, and reporting the Coal Transition Coalition and from the Green Jobs Working Group.

The day included a vibrant debate on important policy resolutions, as well as presentations by guest speakers Markham Hislop, who shared his insights about energy narratives, and Professor Russell Cobb who brought delegates a cautionary tale from Oklahoma.

To close day one we recognized the lifetime of work from our 2019 May Day Award recipient – Peggy Morton! Congratulations Peggy!
